I call myself a “rugged technological enthusiast.”

Just because I have a device doesn’t mean I want it to make things easier.

Look, I’m just saying I don’t want technology to do everything for me. I’m not some bearded weirdo writing a manifesto in a cabin and taping twigs to bombs. I just want to retain some of my humanity and technological independence. At the same time, I know which way the wind’s blowing, and in order to avoid winding up a bearded weirdo in a cabin, I have to stay somewhat abreast of what’s going on in the tech world. That’s why I got this refurbished Augen Gentouch78 Touchscreen Tablet PC. It lightens the load a bit while keeping things just frustrating enough.

Notice how it says “Touchscreen” in the name? Well, it’s resistive touchscreen, so you’re not going to have much luck without a stylus. Of course it’s not as smooth as an iPad; this thing isn’t even made to compete with an iPad. Sure, it’s a tablet, but it’s a 7” tablet. A 7” tablet with a screen that’s pretty scratch-prone. Sure, it takes a while for it to boot up. So do something else for a minute. Relax.

Look, when a man sets to building himself a cabin, he doesn’t buy some magical device that instantly builds his cabin for him. He buys an axe to fell trees. He buys a hammer to pound nails. He buys a saw to fashion the wood into useable forms. The tools make the job a little easier, but they don’t do the job for you. That’s how I look at my Augen Gentouch78. No one will accuse this thing of doing everything for me, that’s for sure.

Come to think of it, maybe I should just build a cabin in the woods. I bet I could grow a gnarly beard.
