Pamela was whistling as she walked to the closet. Whistling! When was the last time she’d done THAT? Of course the answer was “over six months ago” which was pretty much the last time she’d taken her favorite lavender shirt out of the closet. Currently it was at the bottom of the closet, where it had fallen when it slipped off the hanger.

But no big deal! Pamela had a Sunbeam 1500 Watt Garment Steamer now! Not like six months ago, when she had to hang her clothes right next to the shower and crank the hot water. Now she was a mature and reasonable adult, holding a mature and reasonable anti-drip nozzle throwing out 1500 watts of steam, and getting ready to spend a mature and reasonable evening over at Rod’s house, helping him decide what to keep and what to sell.

Pamela pulled the smoothed shirt over her head and took a quick peek in the mirror: terrific! Why didn’t she steam her clothes more often? Now this shirt looked like a shirt, and not like she threw on some old wrinkly pair of drapes. Which reminded her about the drapes. She’d have to steam those too at some point. Especially before her dinner party. Wouldn’t her friends be impressed at how far she’d come since the carrot soup?

And she owed it all to Rod. Maybe she’d misjudged him.
