“I can’t believe this! This isn’t happening! This can’t happen!”
“It’s happening, okay? Snap out of it!”
“But who? Why?”
“It doesn’t matter. Someone pushed the button. The bombs have dropped. The world above is going to be a smoldering, nuclear ruin for decades. I’m just glad I invested in this Fallout shelter.”
“I’m sorry I ever doubted you.”
“Don’t worry about that now. We’re safe. That’s all that matters.”
“But for how long?”
“Well, I have enough water and canned goods to last us 50 years. Maybe longer if we ration.”
“Oh god, I don’t want to spend the rest of my life down here, Brian.”
“We might not have a choice. Here, have some tinned peaches. It’ll calm you down.”
“Is there an opener?”
“Sure, it’s- Hmm. That’s weird.”
“What?”
“When I asked you to put that Kuhn Can & Jar Opener Set in the shelter, where’d you stash it?”
“Oh, it’s still in the kitchen. I was going to get around to it.”
“What?”
“Well it’s not like I come down in the shelter very often. Why are you shaking like that?”
