Regal Ware 8Qt Everything Pot & Lid
Tuesday, October 9, 2012
Do you have one of those infuriating friends who’s just naturally good at everything they try? You’ve spent a lifetime perfecting your foosball game, and this jerk tries it for the first time and defeats you roundly. That’s pretty much the Spanish “Caldero” pot: Annoyingly capable of handling any cooking feat you throw at it.
Talents are a “zero-sum game” for most of us. That is, if we want to improve at something it will come at the cost of some other skill. Not so for the Caldero, nor your insufferable friend. Want to cook killer rice and beans one day and flavorful broth the other? No problem. Want to lose at both pictionary and golf? Call Joel.
So should everybody else just give up on trying to be good at anything because Joel is just going to beat them anyway? Probably. But since we all (including pots) need a raison d’etre, we’re going to keep slogging along in our middling way, hoping for a “big break” or a secret, undiscovered talent that sets us above the rest. This Sisyphean charade can only be made bearable by the knowledge that, with a Caldero in our kitchen, we might someday be able to make a better paella than Joel.
Unless he also gets a Caldero… Ah, crap.
