Drillin’ It To The Streets

You wouldn’t believe how much more attention you get when you carry a drill with you everywhere you go.

WZZZHH WZZZHH! Don’t fall asleep on the #41 bus unless you want an earful of my Hitachi Cordless Drill’s 2-speed, 400 in-lbs motor. KERRASH! Ha ha, I knew it would be worth the hours I spent loosening every screw in that bathroom stall divider. SPLOIK! See, I used to be just another face in the faceless mass. I was the kind of guy you’d forget about before you even saw me. You wouldn’t notice I was there at the supermarket, or at the DMV, or standing in the shadows of your basement while you did the laundry.

Now, though, I’m a vibrant-hued stripe in the rainbow of local color. Everybody loves Drill Guy! Like Flavor Flav with his novelty oversized clock or Katie Couric with her eyepatch, my Hitachi Cordless Drill and I make an impression by making a spectacle of ourselves.

With two 18-volt Ni-Cd batteries, I can charge one while I’m out being Drill Guy for my public. Thanks to the variable speeds, my Hitachi drill can play a mean “Little Latin Lupe Lu.” So when I’m short of scratch, I just prop open the case on a busy sidewalk, start playing, and watch my case fill with spare change. Or sometimes threaten to stab people with the drill until they give me some money. What do you mean, “mugging”? I’m just being a character! Everybody loves Drill Guy!
