Fleur de Sel Salted Chocolate Caramels
Monday, January 28, 2013
OK. Pet peeve. You know how when you’re having a conversation with an American-born English speaker with an otherwise non-specific regional dialect, and they slip in an overly dramatic pronunciation of some foreign word? OOOOOOG! That makes me want to crawl out of my skin!
For example, if you are from Des Moines, Iowa and you’d like to offer me a nibble from your delightful collection of chocolate-covered caramels, please don’t say, “Fleur de Sel” with a ridiculously affected French accent. Just let me enjoy the perfect balance of salty and sweet before I develop an overwhelming urge to flick you in the uvula.
Listen. I get it. The sprinkling of salt turns this already delicious chocolate caramel into a veritable taste explosion. But you don’t have to rub it in my face. So when you say that this premium “GWEE-tar” (Guittard) milk and dark chocolate brings a harmonious blend of flavors to your palate, all I hear is “I’m a pretentious ass who deserves to be flogged with wet kittens.” Now you might think that sounds like fun. Trust me. It’s not.
Love ya. Mean it. KTHXBYE!
