Grill ‘em if you’ve got ‘em

If I could, I would grill or smoke every single meal I ever eat. I would have grilled the animal crackers and milk they gave me for snacktime at nursery school. I would smoke a slice of pie. Grilling and smoking, man. It’s what’s ‘fore dinner.

Before now, though, that wasn’t really possible. Most places you go, there’s no grill, right? Work, school, the movies, the bus, public restrooms, all tragically grill-less.

But now look at this thing. A portable grill and smoker that goes basically anywhere, and that you can clean up in most dishwashers? Are you kidding me? I’m ripping out my stove as soon as I get home. I can use that space to hang up meats while they cure. I’m going to throw my microwave off the back deck and let it shatter in the alley. It’s someone else’s problem henceforward. I need the counter space for storing homemade rubs. I’m never eating anything that isn’t grilled or smoked as long as I live, or as long as I don’t undergo another life-changing culinary radicalization like this one. Which is unlikely.

I’m going to tote this bad boy to work and grill on my lunch break, dude. I’m going to smoke every different kind of Hostess snack cake just to see how they turn out. Even the name—Cobb Pro Convection Grill—gives me an idea. I’m going to reinvent the Cobb salad as a barbecue dish. It will still have chicken and bacon in it, but there’s where my recipe diverges from tradition.

This thing is changing my life, man. I mean it. A whole new me is going to rise from the ashes of my miserable former life like a foil-wrapped chicken rising from the ashes of the used-up charcoal briquettes that cooked it.

Or, OK, a phoenix, if you like that metaphor better. I prefer the chicken one, myself.
