Hi Everybody!

It gives me great pleasure to invite you to our first DINNER PARTY of 2013! Our theme this time is: DEMOCRACY, which means that you, as our guest, will play an important role in what kind of party it turns into!

You’ll be voting on EVERYTHING for the dinner party, from the food to the music to even which pattern of break-and-chip-resistant Corelle Livingware we serve the food on. I’ll send a link to the Google doc where you can vote on everything after this!

Ranked votes will be counted using the Fractional Transfer STV method, where the threshold for winning is: (votes/(options+1))+1. The method will proceed by the following steps:

a) establish the winning threshold
b) count the first place votes
c) transfer votes from one candidate to other candidates
If one or more candidates have surplus votes (votes in excess of the winning threshold), then transfer votes from the candidate with the largest surplus.
the largest surplus votes are transferred by the following steps:
1. (first place votes) – threshold = surplus
2. surplus/(first place votes) = fraction for transfer
3. transfer those fractional votes to the voters’ second choice
Otherwise, if no candidates have surplus votes, eliminate the last place candidate and transfer the second-choice votes from those votes.
d) If not all seats have been filled, then go to step (c).
