Journal Update: March 19, 2012
My new receiver has been less productive than hoped in my quest to find alien intelligence.
UPDATE: My quest to be the first amateur cosmologist to discover evidence of intelligent life elsewhere in space seems to have stalled. The Denon 5.1 Channel A/V Receiver I purchased has yet to produce not just positive results, but any results at all.
Had another disappointing conversation with my Doubting Thomas of a neighbor, Larry. He insists the receiver is for routing multiple hi-def devices like game consoles, TV sets, and Blu-ray players. While it would process 3D video signals, Larry insists it won’t receive anything beaming down from Alpha Centauri. Or anywhere beyond earth. This is the whole, “opening your microwave is dangerous and doesn’t beam microwaves into space” conversation again. He doesn’t get it. He just wants to spit in the face of science.
I won’t let this setback derail my research. I will be the one to discover alien intelligence, even if this receiver is more of a nice addition to a home theater than a deep space research device to analyze signals from the depths of the universe.
Authorized for SquareTrade Extended Warranty
Warranty: 2 Year Denon

Features:
- With four (4) HDMI inputs, the AVR-1312 allows you to route multiple high-definition devices like game consoles and Blu-ray players to your TV. It also allows you to connect all of your devices to your TV with a single HDMI cable, reducing cable clutter.
- With the advent of 3D media, it is important to own a receiver that recognizes 3D video signals. The AVR-1312 is able to pass through 3D signals from your Blu-ray player, ensuring that the 3D effect doesn’t get lost in translation. It also recognizes signals from 3D television broadcasts
