Ernie had finally met his match with Stan, and he was now groveling to his estranged wife with hopes of a reconciliation that would lead her to call him off.

“Just like the fade-free 22.2V lithium ion battery in this Dyson DC35 handheld vac, my affections for you have never faded.”

Marjorie looked skeptical, but she let him continue.

“And just like these anti-static carbon fiber brushes, you are still ultra-fine after all these years.”

She scrunched up her nose at the last remark, as if she had just tasted something sour. But Ernie was undeterred.

“My biggest regret is throwing away 60 plus years of memories with you. Just like the lifetime filter in this vacuum never needs to be, a marriage as strong as ours can never be replaced.”

Marjorie sighed. She just couldn’t take it anymore.

“Ernie. I don’t know what you’re blathering on about, but if this is about Stan moving in on your territory, and by that I mean your precious vacuum business, you will be happy to know that he won’t be a problem for you any more.”

A huge smiled crossed Ernie’s face, and with a lot of effort, he slowly got up from his knees.

“You mean, it’s over between the two of you?”

“You could say that,” said Marjorie. “He’s dead.”

“Oh!” Ernie exclaimed, shocked. “Heart attack?”

“Yeah.”

“Huh …” he said and then paused for a moment. ” … so you think we should send flowers?”
