Lisa looked up from her script and cocked an eyebrow at the director as she blocked the doorway of his office. “You’re not serious, right? I mean, I know you want to sell these wall heaters, but this?” She rolled up the script and waved it just below his face. “This storyline is crap.”

Martin’s mouth hung open for a minute as he tried to find the words to retort. “Well, uh, you know, Home Wonders is a web series, Lisa, used to sell items to people on the Internet. It doesn’t exactly have to be Shakespeare. So, if you wouldn’t mind…”

“I do mind, actually,” she told him, keeping him from pushing past her out into the studio. “You’ve got my character bringing my love interest an Econo-Heat Wall Heater because he’s sick? Really? It’s not a bowl of chicken soup, Marty. It’s an out-of-the-way wall-mounted heating panel that provides an economic way of providing efficient room heating at a low cost. And you know how I know that, Marty? BECAUSE YOUR WRITER LIFTED IT FROM THE PRODUCT SPECS.”

Marty shrugged and looked down at his shoes, desperate to avoid eye contact. “Listen, I hear you, but there isn’t a whole lot we can do, okay? My writers-“

“You mean your cousins.”

“-are working as hard as they can. We’d love to hire some others, maybe even get a real lighting guy and a couple of developing production assistants, but the financiers already told me time and again we can’t do that until we get some ratings. We just have to make do with what we have, okay? Now, please, let me by so we can shoot this thing.”

Lisa rolled her eyes. “But is this what you went to film school for, Marty? This project doesn’t have to be just a bunch of pretty people reciting things like ‘natural convection technology in an ultra-slim compact design’ and ‘operates at relatively low surface temperatures while using minimal electricity.’ What if…?” Lisa thought hard a moment and suddenly remembered something Danielle had told her in confidence. “What if my love interest’s aunt went missing, and this Econo-Heat Wall Heater was some sort of clue? And, uh, the aunt is a twin, so she’s played by the same actor! That’d keep costs down, right?”

Marty stared at her a moment and pushed up his thick-rimmed glasses. Slowly, he backed up towards his desk, picked up the phone, and dialed a number. “Kenny? It’s Marty. Bring Stan and your laptops. We’re going to have a quick re-write session.”
