Flash In The Brain Pan: Cardboard Box Assembler
Friday, July 8, 2011
Okay, we’re a little late to this one… but maybe you are too. And if you’ve missed out on Adult Swim’s Cardboard Box Assembler, now’s your chance to see what you’ve been missing! Remember that Adult Swim is known for animation, which means you’re going to want to watch the credits. They’re a mix of Venture Brothers and Jonny Quest and Cowboy Bebop and they’re probably going to be the most interesting video game credits you’ll see this summer. But the game itself?
Yeah, it’s pretty neat. Your guy is moving around in a box, and the level rotates as you walk. There are six faces and you may or may not have to cross all of them to solve the room. In later levels you’ll also have to go up and down, which can make the roof into the floor, and then there are those ladders…
Cardboard Box Assembler really shines because everything’s so easy to figure out, even if you skip the credits (which, really, don’t) and most of the fun comes from puzzling out how to get from point a to point b. If you get frustrated at games where you can’t shoot things, give this one a miss, but if you like a little geometric logic now and then, Cardboard Box Assembler is likely the platformer for you.
