Flash In The Brain Pan: Dadgame
Friday, June 17, 2011
What does every father secretly want? To be in charge. Of course, we all know that just won’t ever happen in 21st Century America, but c’mon, it’s Father’s Day weekend! Can’t we at least pretend the guy’s got a shot?
So this one’s for you, Dads, a classic from the recent past. It’s Dadgame, the game in which a Dad gets a chance to save the world.
Even for non-gamers, the rules couldn’t be simpler. If you see, you need to smash it, unless it’s a guitar or a weapon. If it’s a guitar, rock out for bonuses. If it’s a weapon, pick it up! Each Dad starts with got a lot of life and is really hard to kill, so there’s no need to be shy. Just jump right into the middle, hammer those keys, and start saving the world indirectly.
In a media where designers are constantly pushing the envelope to make their violence ultra-realistic, it really does the heart proud to see something so elementary school notebook doodle. Your Dad takes no guff from corporations, football players or policemen as he storms across the city smashing and grinning. And that’s just the beginning, before the really goofy stuff appears.
Don’t spend Father’s Day in some complex familial power struggle. That’s what Thanksgiving is for! Instead, just resolve to let ol’ Dad run the show just this once, and send him Dadgame to fill up his weekend.
Let him be champion of the world until Monday. You’ve got 362 other days to rebel.
