Lesley sighed heavily as she pulled the Snap ‘N Stack Ribbon Dispenser toward her. But it wasn’t a sigh of exhaustion or frustration. It was a sigh of absolute content and, for now, peace.

She had one last-minute gift to wrap for Brant before he woke up. She reached into the accessory tray and grabbed the scissors, then snipped off a length of red ribbon and tied a pretty bow around the small wrapped box.

She gazed dreamily out upon the freshly fallen snow and felt thankful for her many blessings.

Brant walked into the living room, still in his robe and slippers. He kissed her gently on the forehead and then asked, “So. Do you want your Christmas present first, or your ‘Anniversary of the First Time I Gave You A Christmas Present’ present?”

“Neither,” said Lesley. “I want you to open this one first.” She pushed the small box toward Brant, and he snatched it up like a giddy child on, well, Christmas morning.

He untied the ribbon, tore off the paper and opened the box. At first, he was confused by its contents. And then a look of realization crossed his face, and he began to cry.

“Does this mean …?” he said to her through tears.

“Yes. You’re going to be a daddy. Merry Christmas, Bug.”

Brant scooped her up and squeezed her tightly, but not too tightly, of course.

He set her down and the two of them stood together, hand-in-hand, as he placed the silver baby rattle ornament on the tree.

Once the holidays had passed, they would place it along with the rest of their precious and fragile ornaments in their Snap ‘N Stack Storage Box for safe keeping.

And by this time next year, they’d have an even more precious keepsake to cherish and protect.
