Holmes Twin Ceramic Heater

Hinkle looked at Miller. Miller looked in the safe. The empty safe looked at Miller. Miller looked at Hinkle. Hinkle sighed and looked at the landlord. The landlord shrugged, and looked at the door.
“It’s a cold night, Hinkle.” Miller cradled the Holmes Heater as the two men loaded up the car.
“There’s no other kind in this line of work,” Hinkle sighed. “Or maybe I shouldn’t say ‘work’ so casually.”
Miller laughed, and the sound was as heartwarming as a comfort control thermostat when properly set. “That’s the spirit, kid. Never let ’em break your sense of humor.”
Hinkle let go of the integrated carry handle and the Holmes Heater fell into the backseat. “Where are we gonna go, Miller?”
Miller shrugged. “No other place to go, kid.”
Hinkle nodded. “Guess you’re right. We gotta do the only thing a couple of washed-up ex-cops who failed at running a detective agency can do.”
“Dubstep power trio?”
The car was very quiet for a moment. Then Hinkle burst out laughing again.
“You’re all right, kid. C’mon. Let’s find somewhere we can plug in that heater until the world figures out how much it needs us.”
Miller reached into the glove compartment and pulled out a map. Hinkle reached under the steering column and grabbed the wires.
“No key?” Miller asked.
“Not my car,” Hinkle answered as the car started.
And soon, all that was left of them were a pair of headlights in the distance.
