Mona Lisa Underachiever
When I was a child, I spake as a child. But when I was a man, I had to accept that living in a cyberpunk future would be sort of expensive.
Back in sixth grade, hey, I spent all day imagining I was in The Matrix or something. Powerful computers, open networks, the constant exchange of information and guns and cool black coats, that was gonna be MY future when I finally grew up! But then I grew up, and I learned that those dark dystopian futures cost a LOT of money. Like, a LOT. And man, I can’t even hack into the Wi-Fi at the airport, what chance do I have of stealing some government plans for a cybernetic arm or whatever?
So I’ve given up those childhood dreams of smashing through a window while hanging from a remote-controlled helicopter flown by my best friend the traitor to the machine armada. Now I’m just looking forward to using my refurbished HP Pavilion P7 Quad-Core Desktop after I come home from my call center job. 8GB of DDR3 RAM is more than enough for my humble dreams, and a 1.5TB hard drive? That’s crazy! Especially when you consider that Johnny Mnemonic only had 160GB of space in his brain. It’s true! Go check me if you don’t believe it! You could even use this SuperMulti DVD drive to do it!
Anyway, between the 15-in-1 Card Reader and the 802.11 b/g/n networking, my HP Pavilion P7 Quad-Core Desktop is exactly the sort of technology that would have thrilled me as a kid. But man, am I glad it comes with 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed. I mean, have you ever TRIED to use Linux? It’s crazy! I tried to read the online manual until I got bored and gave up.
Listen, judge me if you want, but those movies never said anything about cyberpunks having to do homework. How could I know there’d be so much math involved with launching RPGs at an evil multi-national corporation?
