Kelty Redwing 44 Backpack

Before you come in, I should warn you: My new apartment is pretty cozy. In fact, it’s not so much an “apartment” as it is a “Kelty Redwing 44 Backpack,” but I’ve set it up pretty well so that it’s got everything I need.

It’s got about 2.58 square feet of floorspace, which is actually pretty good for this neighborhood. It’s enough room for me to fit my head inside, along with a book, headlamp, and bottle of water. Everything I need! I’m pretty sure we can both fit our heads inside if I do a little bit of rearranging.

I picked the Redwing because it’s got just the features I was looking for in a studio. Its internal frame keeps it supported, while the ventilated back panel acts as a built-in air conditioner. Did somebody say “money-saving”?? It’s got zippered pockets (or “closets,” as I call them) and the key fob means I can just come in, throw my keys on the fob, and relax.

It’s sort of like a houseboat in that I can move it around if I don’t like the current location. Which is great, because if I get tired of a neighborhood I just pack up and move! Right now I’m “moored” in this area behind a dumpster behind a decently-reviewed Mexican restaurant. But I could literally sleep behind any dumpster in the city if I wanted.

Sure, it’s got its drawbacks, but it’s wayyyyy better than my previous situation: Sleeping in a duffel bag in my parent’s basement.
