Kite Train – 25 or 50 Kites
Sunday, September 16, 2012
The Kite Train is a sight to behold. In fact, it’s so cool looking that it’s inspired many songs, many of which have gone on to become huge hits. Unfortunately, some of these songs had to drop the “kite” part, leading people to believe they’re just about actual or metaphorical trains. For example:
The song, “Love Train” by The O’Jays was actually originally called “Kite Train” and the chorus went “People all over the world, join kites, start a kite train, a kite train,” but the record company wanted more love songs, so they changed it.
Also, the song “Come and Ride the Train” by the Quad City DJs was originally “Come and Ride the Kite Train.” According to their autobiography, they wanted to “write a song that made people feel like they were flying” but had to remove the “kite” due to syllable issues.
And that song, by the Grateful Dead, that goes “Driving that train, high on…” well, you know. It originally went, “Flying that kite train, high on…” well, you know. But they changed it, for no real reason except that they were high on… you know.
