Combat Ready

The ONLY laptop I’ll ever use, as a former tank commander.

It wasn’t easy to go from the 117th Armored Brigade to the sales team at Groesbeck Metals. I’m not talking about “excitement” or “adrenaline” – I’m perfectly happy without worrying about getting blown up by an IED. No, my problem was, I kept breaking everything.

See, I got used to being surrounded by steel, by kevlar, by stuff made to stand up to whatever a war zone can throw at it. On my first day at Groesbeck, I broke a coffee pot, a dry-erase board, a fax machine, the floor, and then the new coffee pot they sent me to the store to buy to replace the first one. My boss thanked me for getting rid of the fax machine, but still, I knew I couldn’t keep this up and keep my job.

So after I reduced a third straight MacBook Air to a twisted mass of brushed aluminum, I got my hands on a Lenovo Essential 15.6” Notebook. And it survived.

Now I wouldn’t go on a mission without it. I love its all-purpose, no-frills functionality, from the integrated Wi-Fi to the Windows 7 Home Premium OS to the 250GB hard drive. More importantly, it’s tough enough to stand up to me. I’m just grateful it doesn’t have a touchscreen or who knows what might happen.
