Hey, new guy! How ya doin’? Name’s Maurice. The Big Cheese says I’m supposed to show you the ropes ’round here at the Clockworks today, so I’ll be giving you a few pointers. HA! Get it? “Pointers?” ‘Cause you’re a… You know what, it’s okay. You’re probably just too nervous for humor.
By the looks of you, I’m guessing you were in tech industry before coming here, huh? The left and right buttons, scroll wheel, and compact design give it away. What’d you do? Engineering? Design? You’re kidding. You did clerical work? Geez, I guess things really are rough out there. Well, don’t you worry. I may look old and grey, but you’re “paired up” with one of the best, heh heh.
That was a reference to your Bluetooth 2.1 with HID Profile functionality, kid. Geez, you really oughta loosen up.
Anyway, the job’s pretty simple. You won’t be pointing and clicking anything around here. All you’ve got to do is run up whichever clock you’ve been assigned to for the day. Me, I like to go early and relax a bit, but a lot of the younger fellas wait until the last minute. You might want to replace your two AAA batteries in the break room beforehand, but that’s up to you. Bottom line is that it doesn’t matter when or how you get up there, so long as you’re there when the clock strikes one. Once your clock chimes the hour, just run on down. That’s all you gotta do. Probably not as exciting as dragging and dropping or fiddling with a spreadsheet, but it’s a living.
Now if you’ve got any problems, just lemme know. I’m over on the big mahogany grandfather clock over there. Just flag me down and I’ll do what I can to help. And hey, a word of advice? Steer clear of the three blind jokers you’ll see around here. Chasing farmer’s wives might sound like fun after a hard day of clock climbing, but it’ll only get you in trouble.
