Rockwell ProGrade Planer
Friday, April 5, 2013
We know, we know, it’s an old stereotype. Everyone assumes the person running the planer can’t speak the Queen’s English. They’re always busy woodworking, right? Too busy for book learning? What a stereotype. You should be ashamed for even thinking that.
The truth is, the person running the planer is just like you. He or she has hopes, and dreams, and mastery of a unique left-right chip ejection allowing the user to exhaust wood chips in either direction. He or she is smart enough to know the importance of a safety lock-off switch and the large two-finger trigger control. Sure, they can’t always knock out the New York Times Crossword Puzzle over coffee and croissant, but they probably do all right at bar trivia! And at their bar, it’s not just some time-killer. Those sharks play for cash.
And anyway, let’s turn it about, for the sake of discussion. Could some smooth-handed perfume designer understand the large two-finger trigger control? Well… maybe, since this planer isn’t THAT hard to use. But could some fifth-generation banker manage the front micro-depth adjustment knob? Okay, yes, they probably could with a little practice, and they’d certainly like the soft ergonomic comfort grip handle.
BUT ALL THAT ASIDE, don’t look at the person who uses this planer as being somehow lesser than a professional English teacher. Because the person who uses this planer might be plain, but they’re certainly not stupid.
