Wallace 45pc Flatware Set-2 Styles
Friday, January 25, 2013
Hello, and welcome to my dinner party! I go by the name Wallace Flatware, and I’m always glad to entertain a guest such as yourself.
You notice, first of all, we’ll be eating in the dark. That’s because the first gas light wasn’t patented until 1810, so it certainly wasn’t in use for folks like me! Ha ha! Which is a shame, because those salad forks sure look pretty in the glittering light. Maybe we’ll take them on a picnic one day. That was the sort of thing everyone did in 1810, because land was plentiful then! No strip malls or toxic waste sites for us! Just wide open spaces and maybe the occasional pile of newspapers by the curb.
Of course, you’ll have to use the butter serving knife and sugar spoon, because table manners were quite different then. People in 1810 didn’t just plop in front of the TV and zone out. They had to have (gasp) conversation! This is why people USED to know what forks to use. Unlike today, when everyone eats with their hands.
So in between listening to Beethoven and keeping up with the Napoleonic Wars, we’ll be spearing ham slices with the cold meat fork and measuring out our lives with the eight teaspoons. Get it? Because that’s a reference to- oh, hold up, that wasn’t until 1920. Hold up, we can’t even say “hold up” yet!
Somedays I truly regret making the choice to be an 1810 reenactor. Especially since I really would like to go see The Hobbit, which I can’t do, since it wasn’t published until 1937. If only this flatware set wasn’t so darn lovely! SEDUCER! JEZEBEL! SHINY HARLOT!
