The City Council proposes $ 5 million in bike infrastructure improvement, including protected bike lanes, dedicated cycle tracks, and on-street bike corrals. We will now take public comment.

“Yes, hello. I would like to recommend that we scrap this plan and give everybody Wheel Writer Bike Lights instead.”

Ma’am, this municipal proposal is the result of over two years of planning and deliberation. We’re not going to throw it all out at the drop of a hat.

“I really urge that you do. See, the Meon BikeLight FX kit comes with three parts: A Wheel Writer, a Light Striper, and a Gyro Flasher. Each one is super cool–“

The city government is not in the business of making things cool–

“Of course not, but they’re also super BRIGHT. And no driver would ever be able to miss a bike tricked out with tons of blinking, glowing lights.”

Yes, but bike lanes–

“Cost wayyyyyyyy more than giving every bike rider in the city a BikeLight FX kit. Heck, we could probably give everybody one of these for half the cost of this proposal.”

But we’ll be a laughingstock…

“Only if we program funny pictures into the Wheel Writer. You see, it magically displays images as your wheel spins. I’m not sure how it does it. I imagine gyroscopes are involved. But it’s pretty rad.”

Fine. Fine. We’ll scrap our current plan and give everybody these novelty bike light kits. This isn’t the first time a crazy lady has gotten her way at a City Council meeting simply by not shutting up. ADJOURNED!
