Wolfgang Puck Steamer

Sylvia opened the blinds to let in the sunlight. She caught her reflection in the glass of the balcony doors, and instinctively sucked in her tummy. She decided right then to forego the biscuits and gravy she had planned for breakfast, and instead opted for an egg white omelet with fresh veggies.
As she headed for the kitchen to retrieve the ingredients, she glanced out the window. For a split second she could have sworn she saw someone in a car on the street below with binoculars, but she shook it off and went to the cabinet for her Wolfgang Puck Steamer.
She didn’t need the added fats and oils, so she cut up the peppers, onions and mushrooms. While she was waiting the 3 minutes it takes for the steamer to reach full temp, she took another look out the window.
Sure enough, there they were. Two guys parked on the street below, and one was peering through a pair of binoculars. “Three can play at this game,” she thought.
Sylvia grabbed her set of binoculars out of the kitchen junk drawer (where else would she keep them?) and peered down at the two men. One of them looked to be about Craig’s age, maybe a little older. But … wait just a minute. A smile curled the corners of her lips as she surveyed the other passenger. He had a square jaw and a full head of salt and pepper hair, quite the silver fox. “Well HELLO there,” she said out loud.
She put the binoculars down for a moment while she added the veggies to one of the stackable baskets and set the timer for 5 minutes. Before closing the lid, she grabbed a piece of the raw red pepper and took a bite as she headed for the window again. She picked up the binoculars and scanned for the men and … $ #!%! The younger one was staring RIGHT AT HER!
Sylvia instinctively threw herself to the ground as a white hot flush of panic spread from the top of her head all the way down her body. “Just calm down, Sylvia,” she told herself. “They’re probably not even looking at you. It’s not like they KNOW. No one knows, except maybe … No no. That’s not possible.”
The steamer timer dinged, but she was frozen in place. Good thing it had boil-dry protection. It would just shut itself off once the water level dropped too far.
She gathered her composure enough to prop herself up and peer through the binoculars again. This time the older man was peering back at her. Their eyes met for a moment before he turned to say something to the younger man who put the car in gear and sped away.
Sylvia collapsed onto her back and stared at the ceiling with her mind racing for the next hour. After all these years, was it possible they had actually found her?
