It wasn’t the fact that Pamela got the sudden urge to dance. Or that she was surprisingly limber for her age. It wasn’t even that there was no music playing, or that even if there had been, she still would have been very obviously off beat.
It was more that she was in the middle of a very busy and crowded coffee house when the mood struck. And also that the sudden movement had startled the barista so that he had accidentally burned himself on the steam wand, and then immediately scalded himself with the hot water for tea that dispenses from it.
The truth is, Pamela had finally cracked under the guilt she felt over Sylvia. She had completely lost it … and she didn’t care. Dance like no one is watching? Hah! She would dance like EVERYONE was watching and it was her moment to SHINE.
She jumped over the counter and hip-checked the wounded barista out of the way. Then she grabbed a bag of beans and started shaking them like a tambourine before dumping them into the built-in lidded coffee bean hopper.
When the conical Burr grinder roared to life, she started wailing an indecipherable tune along with it, and then compulsively adjusted the 6-9 gram OptiDose bean grinder regulator.
She had just grabbed the removable 57-ounce water tank and poured it over her head Flash Dance style when security came in and handcuffed her.
As they were leading her out the door, she stopped, took a big bow (right next to the Saeco Odea Giro Espresso they were just bringing in the door at the last minute) and yelled, “Thank you! Goodnight!”
